Hello dear readers. Today we are talking about finding rest. So put on some comfy clothes, grab that warm tea, sit down, and relax. No, I don’t care if you’re at work, just do it. 🙂
When researching verses on this topic, the whole Bible has a lot to say. Here are a couple of examples:
Psalm 4:8:
“In peace I will lie down and sleep, for you alone, Lord, make me dwell in safety”
Matthew 11:28-30:
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”
The deeper I dive into this topic, the more I realize that rest is a gift from the Lord. One of the biggest examples is the Sabbath. A whole day dedicated to rest and worship. Remember how God knows us better than we know ourselves? Well, Him giving us rest is one of my favorite examples of this.
Here’s a list of some of the benefits of rest according to a quick Google search:
Reduced stress
Enhanced immune system
Reduced risk of injury
Improved muscle recovery
Improved mood
Improved focus
Improved memory
Reduced risk of chronic diseases
Improved digestion
Enhanced Creativity
Here’s a kicker, Increased productivity!
This is just from rest, I am not even talking about sleep, which is also very important.
Also, if we are not careful, restlessness can actually make us more prone to sin. Well, at least for me. A lack of sleep or being overworked makes it so much easier for to make the wrong decision.
So let this post be a reminder to take a breathe and find rest with The Lord. Even if it is just for a couple of minutes, you owe it to yourself and those around you to get some rest. I hope you have a beautiful day and I hope to see you again soon!
